Our internal governance
The parameters of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority's (SSM) organisation and its operations are defined and controlled by a management system. This provides a structure for our work, while at the same time contributing to not only effective management, but also to systematic improvement and development efforts. SSM's management system is certified to environmental, occupational health and safety management, and quality standards.
The purposes of the Authority's management system include achieving:
- Maximum benefit for society
- Good standards in the areas of quality, the environment, and occupational health and safety
- Good information security.
Certification and audits
The Authority has selected certification of its management system to standards in the following areas:
- Quality: ISO 9001:2015
- Environment: ISO 14001:2015
- Occupational health and safety management: OHSAS 18001:2007.
Among other things, certification signifies that external and internal audits of our operations are performed on a regular basis.
The work of the National Metrology Laboratory for ionising radiation is audited regularly against the standard ISO 17025:2005 by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC).
The management system is also in compliance with ISO 27001, which concerns information security management, as well as the requirements of the IAEA's (International Atomic Energy Agency) standard, "Leadership and Management for Safety, GSR Part 2". The management system of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is assessed in connection with review by an IAEA-coordinated team of international experts, who examine Sweden's compliance with IAEA standards.
