  • 2014:55 Technical Note, Further Reproduction of SKB’s Calculation Cases and Independent

  • 2014:50 Technical Note, A Study of Availability of Fuel Data for Sweden’s Spent Nuclear Fuel

The study covers all types spent fuel planned to be placed in the final repository. It was carried out by selecting a sample of spent fuel and investigating the information available at the Nuclear Power Plants (NPP’s) in Sweden, the Central interim storage facility (Clab) and Studsvik. The results indicate that the required data is available and can be obtained for fuel unloaded after 1980.

  • 2014:48 Technical Note, Independent assessment of groundwater sulphide content in the long-te

Groundwater sulphide content is a key factor in the determination of canister lifetimes because of its role in corrosion of copper.  SKB has based the canister lifetime analysis on a distribution of measured sulphide concentrations which are assumed to apply throughout the long-term analysis period.  The distribution is based on expert judgement in the selection of samples that are regarded...

  • 2014:47 Technical Note, Assessment of groundwater salinity evolution at repository depth and especially the impact of dilute water infiltration

Groundwater compositions entering deposition holes in the repository will be progressively diluted over time because of expected changes of topographic and climatic conditions at Forsmark.  This is a long-term safety issue because very dilute water could destabilise compacted bentonite and erode buffer, leading to advective movement of sulphide-containing water to the canister surface. ...

  • 2014:46 Technical Note, QA in SKB’s Groundwater Flow Modelling

The general objective of the project is to provide review comments on SKB’s postclosure safety analysis, SR-Site, for the proposed repository at Forsmark. The specific objective is to get an understanding and an assessment of SKB’s quality assurance of the groundwater flow modelling in connection to SR-Site. The reliability of the results of the groundwater flow modelling depends inter alia...

  • 2014:44 Technical Note, Independent evaluation of the number of critical canister positions in the KBS-3 repository at Forsmark – Main Review Phase

Independent calculations were carried out to estimate Ncrit, the number of canisters in critical positions that can be expected in the proposed repository at Forsmark, based on statistical simulations of SKB's geological discrete-fracture network (Geo-DFN) models, and taking into account SKB's full-perimeter criterion (FPC) and extended full-perimeter criterion (EFPC) to screen out...

  • 2014:43 Technical Note, Workshop on general corrosion of copper

This report describes the outcome of the workshop organized by SSM on general corrosion of copper that was held in Stockholm on the 26-27th of August, 2013. The report summarizes the issues discussed and extracts the essential viewpoints that have been expressed. It should not be considered as a comprehensive record of all the discussions at the workshop and individual statements made by...

  • 2014:41 Technical Note, Review of Radionuclide Abstraction and Selection in the SKB Safety Case -Main Review Phase

As part of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) review of the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) SR-Site safety assessment for a spent nuclear fuel repository in Sweden, this technical note documents the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses (CNWRA®) review of the abstraction and selection of radionuclides in the SKB safety case. Specifically, CNWRA...

  • 2014:40 Technical Note, Review of Performance Confirmation Programs and Potential Roles in SSM’s Current Review of SKB’s License Application – Main Review Phase

The initial license application of a repository concept for disposal of radioactive waste is based on extensive site characterization, baseline monitoring, development of disposal designs and engineered barriers, test data on engineered barriers, and the integration of a series of models representing processes controlling the containment, release and migration of radionuclides from the...
