Notification regarding the permanent closure of Ringhals 1
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has been notified by Ringhals AB that the reactor Ringhals 1 was permanently shut down on 31 December 2020.
“This notification means that the reactor Ringhals 1 is permanently closed, which under the regulations of the Act on Nuclear Activity means that electrical production may not be resumed,” says Ulf Yngvesson, Chief Legal Officer at the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.
Reactor 1 will now transition to shutdown operation and later to maintenance operation.
