1992:3 Characterization of seismic ground motions for probabilistic safety analyses of nuclear facilities in Sweden. SUMMARY REPORT
In Scandinavia seismic activity is generally low. Only a few incidents have been registered in historic time, which might have damaged an industrial plant of today. The risk of a nuclear accident in Sweden, caused by an earthquake, may thus be considered to be low. The two latest reactors Forsmark 3 and Oskarshamn 3 have been analysed and designed to resist a specified earthquake. For the...

2015:19 Recent Research on EMF and Health Risk - Tenth report from SSM’s Scientific Council on Electromagnetic Fields, 2015
The objective of the report is to cover the previous year’s research in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMF). The report gives the Authority an overview and provides an important basis for risk assessment. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority’s (SSM) scientific council monitors the current research situation and provides the Authority with advice on the assessment of risks,...

2016:15 Recent Research on EMF and Health Risk, Eleventh report from SSM’s Scientific Council on Electromagnetic Fields, 2016
Including Thirteen years of electromagnetic field research monitored by SSM’s Scientific Council on EMF and health: How has the evidence changed over time? The report has the objective of covering the previous year’s research in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMF). The report gives the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority an overview and provides an important basis for risk assessment. The...

2014:26 Improved reference and relative dosimetry of small radiation therapy photon beams
Data tables on detector corrections for beam output measurements are provided for a large number of detectors (small air and liquid ionization chambers, silicon diodes, TLD and alanine) manufactured by major vendors, for 6 MV photons from clinical accelerators and for two Leksell Gamma Knife® models. They have been calculated with the PENELOPE Monte Carlo system at an uncertainty of 0.1%.

2021:28 Analysis of Radon Levels in Swedish Dwellings and Workplaces
SSM perspective Background Exposure to radon is considered the second most important cause of lung cancer next to smoking and is estimated to account for about 500 lung cancer cases per year in Sweden. For this reason, it is important to lower radon concentrations in indoor air, particularly where levels exceed the reference level 200 Bq/m³. In order to be able to update calculations on number...

2021:04 Calibration of models for cladding tube high-temperature creep and rupture in the FRAPTRAN-QT-1.5 program
SSM perspective Background In Swedish Light Water Reactors (LWR), stress corrosion cracking of reactor components and welds occurs from time to time. As the nuclear power plants are ageing, it is essential to study and further understand the mechanism for environmentally induced sensitization. Natural cracking is a phenomenon that is difficult to predict and very hard to study since it occurs...

2021:10 Establishment and use of attention values in environmental fatigue assessments
SSM perspective Background As Swedish NPPs reach their original technical design life, re-assessment of the fatigue life of structural components is needed for safe long term operation (LTO). In these re-assessments one must consider that new knowledge has shown that environmental effects on fatigue life must be considered. One common method to verify the fatigue life of structural components...

2021:20 Effects of additives on UO2 fuel behavior: expanded edition
SSM perspective Background The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) follows the development of nuclear fuel closely. Fuel with additives like chromia and gadolinia is used in Swedish reactors and fuel with even better thermal and mechanical properties is under development. This project is an in-depth study of data and models regarding the impact of additives on the properties of uranium...
