2014:20 An evaluation of high-temperature creep of zirconium alloys: data versus models
In this report Dr Massih presents correlations for creep in different phases of zirconium alloys and also presents a general solution to the difficulty of accurately describing the material properties in phase transition for several zirconium alloys. Based upon superplasticity relations, models are adapted to fit with experimental data for materials in transition regions. The creep models are...

2014:26 Improved reference and relative dosimetry of small radiation therapy photon beams
Data tables on detector corrections for beam output measurements are provided for a large number of detectors (small air and liquid ionization chambers, silicon diodes, TLD and alanine) manufactured by major vendors, for 6 MV photons from clinical accelerators and for two Leksell Gamma Knife® models. They have been calculated with the PENELOPE Monte Carlo system at an uncertainty of 0.1%.

2014:17 Technical Note, Assessment of radiological effects on non-human biota –Main Review Phase
This report presents a review of SKBs assessment of the long-term radiological effects on plants and animals of a deep geological repository as described in SKB report TR-10-08. The SKB report is one of a number contributing to the overall safety assessment, referred to as SR-Site, for the repository. The conclusion of the SKB report was that the ‘study gives no reason to assume that any of...

2014:07 Technical Note, Review of the geological mapping and geophysical measurement techniques for the determination of critical properties around deposition holes -Main Review Phase
This Technical Note reports the findings of a detailed evaluation of the geological and geophysical methods proposed by SKB with respect to their ability, resolution, performance, reliability and robustness to measure the geomechanical parameters critical for determining deposition hole acceptability during repository operation. Addressed are specific questions focusing on the detection of...

2014:39 Technical Note, “Wormhole” and Multiple Loss of Buffer Safety Function Scenarios
This Technical Notes reviewed the issues that may cause canister corrosion other than the cases evaluated by SKB, which may belong to “What-if” canister corrosion scenarios. This Notes, in particular, addressed two potential canister corrosion scenarios: “wormhole” formation and loss of multiple buffer safety functions. The “wormhole” scenario was hypothesized during the SSM Workshop on...

2014:35 Technical Note, Modelling comparison of alternative biosphere models with LDF models and evaluation of selected parameter values used in the biosphere dose assessment - Main review phase
This report has been prepared as part of the SSM’s Main Review Phase of SKB’s SR-Site performance assessment of the long-term safety of the KBS-3 geological disposal facility (GDF) proposed for construction at Forsmark. The review addresses the methodology employed in the dose assessment calculations of SR-Site; specifically issues of transport, accumulation and transfers of radionuclides in...

2014:34 Technical Note, Modelling Comparison of Simple Reference Biosphere Models with LDF Models – Main Review Phase
This Technical Note describes the development of simple reference biosphere models as a means of exploring the Landscape Dose Factor (LDF) approach adopted by SKB in the SR-Site safety assessment for the proposed final disposal of spent nuclear fuel at the Forsmark site. The models are developed and described in a systematic manner, based on international guidance reflected in the...

2014:03 Report from SSM’s scientific council on ionizing radiation within oncology, 2012
In this report, a finalized version of a radiotherapy protocol template for external beam radiotherapy is presented. The focus is on procedural aspects, while issues regarding clinical evaluation during and after treatment are not dealt with. The use of this radiotherapy template is encouraged for structured description of contemporary radiotherapy in care programs and clinical trial...

2014:51 Report from SSM’s scientific council on ionizing radiation within oncology, 2013. MR in radiotherapy - an important step towards personalised treatment?
Imaging is important for radiotherapy and the development of new imaging modalities is closely linked to the evolution of modern radiotherapy. The implementation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in modern radiotherapy holds great promise for the future but the scientific council emphasizes that it must be carefully monitored in order to minimize the introduction of new risks, violating...

2014:27 Regulation applying to welding of pressure equipment – a comparative study
The PED was in force in November 1999 and has been mandatory in European Union Member States since May 2002. Most of the standards referred to in the PED are relatively new although some of the standards were adopted in the early 1990s. On the other hand, the ASME B&PV Code has been used for a long time now and is the result of several decades of industrial experiences. The authors present...
