A cosmetic treatment is intended to alter or preserve a person's appearance. Examples of treatments involving non-ionising radiation include:

  • Hair removal using laser or IPL
  • Fat reduction using laser or ultrasound
  • Skin enhancement treatments using laser, IPL, ultrasound, or radiofrequency (RF)
  • Body sculpting using electromagnetic fields (EMF)
  • Tattoo removal using laser technology

As of 4 May 2026, new regulations for cosmetic treatments apply, including a requirement for businesses to submit a notification through the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority’s e-service. You can find the link to the e-service on the "Notification of cosmetic service provider” page in the menu to the left.

If you have suffered an injury in connection with a cosmetic treatment involving radiation, seek medical care as soon as possible. You may also report this incident to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. Instructions on how to do so can be found in the menu to the left.
