2011:16 Modelling of ultrasonic testing of cracks in cladding
During the last two decades, SSM has supported research to develop a model for the non-destructive test situation based on ultrasonic technique. Such a model is important in many ways, for example to supplement and plan experimental studies and to perform parametric studies in qualification situation. Modeling can be a useful tool when the inspection system shall be technically justified.

2011:13 Investigation of Discrete-Fracture Network Conceptual Model Uncertainty at Forsmark
Flow modelling using alternative assumptions regarding conceptual and parametric uncertainty in the spatial and structural relationships among fractures indicates elevated flow rates and groundwater velocities to deposition holes compared to SKB’s flow modelling results. Simulated sampling of fractures in boreholes does not indicate any reason to exclude the proposed spatial and structural...

2011:22 Infiltration of dilute groundwaters and resulting groundwater compositions at repository depth
The planned Swedish concept for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel includes copper canisters placed in deposition holes at about 500 m depth in granitic bedrock. The copper canisters will be surrounded by bentonite buffer with the objective of inhibiting groundwater flow adjacent to the canister. It has been discovered that dilute glacial melt-water may induce erosion of the buffer material.

2012:17 Technical Note, Corrosion of copper canister
It is expected that the inflow of ground water to the deposition holes and tunnels in the Forsmark repository will be very slow. Thus, it might take some few hundred years up to thousand years before the deposition holes are filled with ground water and it might take 6000 years or more before the bentonite buffer is fully water saturated and pressurized. The copper canisters will therefore...

2011:09 Is Copper Immune to Corrosion When in Contact With Water and Aqueous Solutions?
The KBS-3concept implies that spent nuclear fuel is placed in copper canisters surrounded by clay and finally placed approximately 500 m down from surface into granitic bedrock, in order to isolate the spent nuclear fuel from humans and environment for very long time scales (i.e. millions of years). The concept is based on the multi-barrier principle, in this respect the barriers are the...

2011:08 Workshop on Copper Corrosion and Buffer Erosion Stockholm 15-17 September 2010
In SSM:s preparation for reviewing SKB:s license application for disposal of spent nuclear fuel, a series of technical workshops have been conducted. The main purpose of this type of workshops is to get an overall understanding of the state of knowledge on interdisciplinary issues as well as of questions in the research front by inviting several experts. Previous workshops have addressed the...

2009:33 Workshop on spent fuel performance, radionuclide chemistry and geosphere transport parameters, Lidingö 2008: Overview and evaluation of recent SKB procedures
The safety assessment for disposal of spent nuclear fuel canister in the Swedish bedrock should thoroughly address the time period after a containment failure. Such a failure could be expected as a result of corrosion damage or mechanical failure due to rock movement. This report mainly covers some issues connected to parameters used for radionuclide transport calculations in the areas of...

2009:19 Review of SKB’s Quality Assurance Programme
SKB is preparing a license application for the construction of a final repository for spent nuclear fuel in Sweden. This application will be supported by the safety assessment SR-Site for the post-closure phase. The assessment of long-term safety is based on a broad range of experimental results from laboratory scale, intermediate scale and up to full scale experiments. It is essential that...
