  • 1995:15 Determination of the Neutron and Photon Dose Equivalent at Work Places in Nuclear Facilities of Sweden

The radiation fields in nuclear power plants consist of a mixture of photons and neutrons of various energies. A detector is usually constructed to respond to one type of radiation only and is usually useful in a limited energy range . .This is especially so for neutrons. Accurate descriptions of the radiation envirorunent are therefore very complicated to obtain. During the last decade great...

  • 1994:15 Aging Degradation of Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants

This report on the aging-related degradation of concrete structures in nuclear power plants was prepared by Battelle Seattle Research Center for the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate (SKI). The purpose of this report is to provide an understanding of how concrete structures in nuclear power plants degrade over time. This report is based on the studies of concrete aging commissioned by the...

  • 1994:14 Evaluation of acceptance criteriafor data on environmentally assistedcracking in light water reactors

The assessment of possible sub-critical crack growth through environmentally assisted cracking (EAC) is a commonly encountered problem in safety evaluations of light water reactor components. The numerous factors influencing EAC fall into three main groups (material, medium and loading), but their interactions are highly complex. Field assessments usually rely on the evaluation of...

  • 1990:18 Some Estimates of the Total NuclideInventory in the Year 2100 from Swedish Nuclear Power Production

The total nuclide inventory in spent fuel from the swedish nuclear power programme has been estimated for three cases. All reactors were arrumed to operate until the year 2010 and then shut down simultaneously. All fuel used was assumed to be based on enriched natural uranium. The reactors were assumed to shut down after 25 years of commercial operation, but not later than in the year 2010.

  • 1986:12 Chernobyl - its impact on Sweden

In case of a radiological emergency in Sweden, the Swedish National Institute of Radiation Protection (SSI) has the responsibility of organ1z1ng a special task force with experts both from SSI and from other authorities. Reports of increased radiation l evels reached SSI around 10 am on April 28, 1986, and the task force convened at 1030 am. A large number of measurements were made all over...

  • 2017:34 Human capability to cope with unexpected events

Background In the light of the Fukushima accident, it stood clear that the challenge of the unexpected is of great importance to both regulators and licensees. For SSM, as for many other national regulators, there was a selfevident need to learn more about the capabilities and actions of people when the unexpected arises and conditions are potentially extreme. A task group was set up within...
