2014:07 Technical Note, Review of the geological mapping and geophysical measurement techniques for the determination of critical properties around deposition holes -Main Review Phase
This Technical Note reports the findings of a detailed evaluation of the geological and geophysical methods proposed by SKB with respect to their ability, resolution, performance, reliability and robustness to measure the geomechanical parameters critical for determining deposition hole acceptability during repository operation. Addressed are specific questions focusing on the detection of...

2014:05 Technical Note, Assessment of flows to deposition holes – Main Review Phase
SKB’s conceptual model for flow through the fractured rock at Forsmark is based on a division between highly fractured deformation zones (described in terms of deterministic geometry), and the more sparsely fractured rock (described in terms of statistical geometry). The model for the highly fractured deformation zones includes several assumptions that are not strongly supported by data,...

2014:20 An evaluation of high-temperature creep of zirconium alloys: data versus models
In this report Dr Massih presents correlations for creep in different phases of zirconium alloys and also presents a general solution to the difficulty of accurately describing the material properties in phase transition for several zirconium alloys. Based upon superplasticity relations, models are adapted to fit with experimental data for materials in transition regions. The creep models are...

2014:54 Technical Note, Further Modelling Comparison of Simple Reference Biosphere Models with the LDF Modelling Approach – Main Review Phase
This Technical Note describes further use of simple reference biosphere models for SSM’s review of the Landscape Dose Factor (LDF) approach adopted by SKB in the SR‑Site safety assessment for the proposed final disposal of spent nuclear fuel at the Forsmark site. Simple biosphere models for the Forsmark site under temperate climate conditions were previously developed for SSM’s review and are...

2014:58 Technical Note, Rock Mechanics - Assessing probability and extent of blind faults and fault-end growth around the KBS-3 repository at Forsmark – Main Review Phase
To get a general understanding of the stability conditions of the fault and deformation zone inventory at Forsmark a reactivation potential analysis was carried out. At present-day stress conditions the deformation zones are stable and show no large deformations or detected seismicity. Any changes in stress, and in particular increase of differential stress on deformation zones, might cause...

2014:55 Technical Note, Further Reproduction of SKB’s Calculation Cases and Independent

2014:59 Technical Note, Relation between earthquake magnitude, fracture length and fracture shear displacement in the KBS-3 repository at Forsmark – Main Review Phase
This study addresses one of several scenarios that could impair the physical integrity of the repository of spent nuclear fuel at the Forsmark site. Two sources of threat are: i) events due to thermal loading on the rock mass by the heat from canisters with spent nuclear fuel, and ii) seismic events, i.e. earthquakes, at the nearby deformation zones and zones intersecting the repository area.

2014:08 Technical Note, Review of Long-Term Redox Evolution of Groundwater and Potential Influence of Oxygenated Glacial Meltwater in SR-Site
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) is reviewing an application submitted by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) in 2011 to construct, possess, and operate a deep geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel at the Forsmark site in the municipality of Östhammar, Sweden. SKB has presented details of its long-term safety assessment, SR-Site, in a main report...

2014:11 Technical Note, Radionuclide Solubility Limits in SKB’s Safety Case
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) is reviewing a license application, which has been submitted by Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB), for a spent nuclear fuel repository at Forsmark. This technical note records the findings from a project that forms part of the main phase of SSM’s license application review. The project involved review of reports and independent modelling...

2014:10 Technical Note, Rock Mechanics - Confidence of SKB’s models for predicting the occurrence of spalling – Main Review Phase
This review study is placed in the context of SSM’s Main Review Phase for SKB’s safety assessment SR-Site. The assignment is titled “Rock Mechanics – Confidence of SKB’s models for predicting the occurrence of spalling”. The report presents the authors’ assessment in response to the questions raised by SSM. The review concentrated on two main issues: (1) the analysis of the assumptions made...
