2019:24 SSM's external experts' review of SKB's analysis of long-term safety of 1BMA (SFR)
SSM perspective Background Fractures in the concrete barrier of the rock vault 1BMA in the final repository for low and intermediate level waste (SFR) have been observed. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) enforced Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) to assess the long-term radiological consequences of 1BMA (SSM2015-2432-26) given the present state of the rock...

2017:02 Slow strain rate testing of copper in sulfide rich chloride containing deoxygenated water at 90 °C
Background Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) can occur in materials from the combined influence of tensile stress and a corrosive environment. It has previously been shown in the literature, that copper can be sensitive to SCC in the presence of sulfide containing water. Since both tensile...

2014:47 Technical Note, Assessment of groundwater salinity evolution at repository depth and especially the impact of dilute water infiltration
Groundwater compositions entering deposition holes in the repository will be progressively diluted over time because of expected changes of topographic and climatic conditions at Forsmark. This is a long-term safety issue because very dilute water could destabilise compacted bentonite and erode buffer, leading to advective movement of sulphide-containing water to the canister surface. SKB’s...

2014:55 Technical Note, Further Reproduction of SKB’s Calculation Cases and Independent

2014:46 Technical Note, QA in SKB’s Groundwater Flow Modelling
The general objective of the project is to provide review comments on SKB’s postclosure safety analysis, SR-Site, for the proposed repository at Forsmark. The specific objective is to get an understanding and an assessment of SKB’s quality assurance of the groundwater flow modelling in connection to SR-Site. The reliability of the results of the groundwater flow modelling depends inter alia...

2017:18 FEM analysis of the mechanical integrity for the canister intended for storage of spent nuclear fuel with regard to copper creep ductility
Background For final storage of spent nuclear fuel it is suggested by the Swedish nuclear fuel and waste management company (SKB) to emplace the nuclear fuel into copper canisters which are surrounded by bentonite clay at approximately 500 meters’ depth into granitic rock. After emplacement of the canisters Bentonite swelling due to water saturation and hydrostatic pressure build up the...

2012:33 Technical Note, Review of Groundwater Chemistry in SKB’s Safety Assessment SR-Site
This initial review examined SKB’s characterization of groundwater chemistry at the Forsmark site and its evolution during long time periods under different possible climates in the future. The review considered whether the geochemical data provided by SKB are reasonable and sufficient and whether the methods used by SKB for projecting geochemical conditions into the future are appropriate.
