Notification concerning permanent shutdown of Ringhals reactor R2

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has been notified by Ringhals AB that reactor R2 is closed down as of 30 December 2019.

“This notification signifies that reactor R2 of the Ringhals nuclear power plant has been permanently shut down, which under the provisions contained in the Act on Nuclear Activities means that the reactor is not permitted to be recommissioned,” says chief legal officer Ulf Yngvesson of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.

Reactor R2 will now transition into the post-operation phase, and thereafter the care and maintenance phase.

The decommissioning process
